Dear Strike Out Thyroid Cancer survivors, friends and supporters:

  The board members of Strike Out Thyroid Cancer would like to thank you for your support throughout the past two years. With your charitable contributions, we have been able to create a fund in order to enhance research and to create awareness for thyroid cancer. Over the past two years, we have donated more than $60,000 to specifically benefit thyroid cancer research at The Ohio State University James Cancer Hospital. These donations have allowed OSU researchers to explore new areas of research and to develop and test new treatments for thyroid cancer that otherwise would not have been possible. When a group of friends created the idea of Strike Out Thyroid Cancer to support a loved one who had been recently diagnosed, we never imagined we would reach such success!

  Although we have had such great success, we have chosen not to hold our annual bowling fundraiser. We have decided, we want to ensure that 100 percent of our dollars raised go to research and not to pay event costs. We believe this cause is that important. Therefore, we have established a fund at the Columbus Foundation for charitable donations. 100 percent of the donations to this new fund will still be provided to The Ohio State University James Cancer Hospital for thyroid cancer research. At a time when federal and other private funding sources are expected to be reducing support, the importance of our mission to promote awareness and to provide support for thyroid cancer research is magnified. Since thyroid cancer incidence is rising faster than any other tumor type in the United States according to the American Cancer Society , finding ways to support research is critical. Therefore, as a group, we will carry on with our mission, and we hope that you will do the same. Our hope is that everyone who has purchased a ticket in the past or who has supported our efforts will give directly to our fund at The Columbus Foundation. This will be a tax-deductible gift, and in our mind, it is the best way to support this cause. We hope that you will choose to support the fund during the month of February and throughout the year.
